Hydrodynamics and Hydrogeography

A second inlet formed along Nauset Barrier Beach in 2007 resulted in dramatic changes in hydrodynamics (flushing) in Pleasant Bay.  Tide range increased 7/10 of a foot, and the volume of water exchanging between the Bay and Atlantic Ocean increased 11%.  These changes also resulted in significant shoaling and shifting sediments. These changes have been evaluated in a hydrodynamic model and a hydrogeographic survey sponsored by the Alliance.
