Freshwater Ponds
The Pleasant Bay ACEC contains eleven freshwater lakes or ponds that have a perennial hydrological connection to the Pleasant Bay system. In 2003, the Alliance undertook an assessment of shoreline conditions surrounding the ACEC ponds. The assessment found several species that are designated as rare, endangered of special concern by the Natural Heritage and Endangered Species Program, as well as exemplary habitats such as the New England Coastal Plain Pond Shore and the Atlantic White Cedar Swamp.
